20 Largest US Diversified Utilities Company Stock Prices Down 45% Due to Financial Meltdown Spillover Effects, Then Up 109% Under Obama and the US Fed

I found 20 US Diversified Utilities Companies classified in the Utilities Sector at Yahoo's superb Finance website with current Total Market Capitalizations of at least $100 mil and which also had their common stocks trading on each of the following three dates:

  • On December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second term
  • On March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was their lowest point due to the spillover effects resulting from the 2008 financial meltdown, and
  • also on the most recent date February 14, 2014.

The historical common stock prices of these companies were obtained from the following two excellent internet resources....  Google Finance and MarketWatch Big Charts.

These 20 largest US Diversified Utilities Companies had their average stock prices decline by a huge 45% from December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second Presidential term, to March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the very lowest point for the overall stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.

But in the slightly less than five years since March 6, 2009, the average stock prices of these same 20 largest US Diversified Utilities Companies have increased by a very respectable 109% through February 14, 2014, led by Merrillville, IN-based NISource (up 330%) and by Albuquerque, NM-based PNM Resources (up 309%).  This average stock price increase of 109% excludes the substantial common stock cash dividends received by Diversified Utilities Companies' investors during the past five years.

18 of these 20 US Diversified Utilities Companies had their stock prices increase since March 6, 2009.  And 11 of these 20 had their stock prices at least double since March 6, 2009.

Clearly, a clear majority of the investors in and employees of these 20 US Diversified Utilities Companies must be very pleased with the impact of actions taken by both the Obama Administration and the US Fed to successfully rescue the US economy from its extremely weakened state.

Below here are the stock market prices of each of these 20 US Diversified Utilities Companies on February 14, 2014, on March 6, 2009, and on  December 31, 2007:
