Illinois Company Stock Market Prices Up 553% Since March 6, 2009, a Massive Spike Up in Just the Past Two Weeks.....Illinois State Unemployment Rate Drops Sharply From 11.0% in October 2009 to 6.6% in September 2014

Since there is an important upcoming Illinois US Senate Race as well as a hotly contested Illinois Governor's Race, I think it would be helpful to update how Illinois Companies have done on the stock market price front since March 6, 2009, which was the very bottom point of the US Stock Market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 financial meltdown.

During this five years and eight months period of time from March 6, 2009 through October 31, 2014, Dick Durbin was an Illinois US Senator and Pat Quinn was Illinois Governor.

I found 106 Illinois Headquartered Companies in Yahoo's or Google's superb Finance websites or from SEC filings with current Total Stock Market Capitalizations of more than $100 mil each and which also had their common stocks trading on each of the following three dates:
  • On December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second term
  • On March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the lowest point for the US stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the 2008 financial meltdown, and
  • also on the most recent date October 31, 2014.
I included Accenture since it has substantial operations in the Chicago area, even though it is headquartered overseas.

I also included 7 Illinois Companies which were sold in 2014 and 2 Illinois Companies whose common stock first started trading in 2008.  That makes a total of 115 Illinois Companies shown below.

The historical stock prices of these companies were obtained from the following two excellent internet resources....  Google Finance and MarketWatch Big Charts.

These 115 Illinois Companies had their average equal-company-weighted stock market prices decline by a massive 55% from December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second Presidential term, to March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the very lowest point for the overall stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.

But in the five years and eight months since March 6, 2009 through October 31, 2014, the average stock market prices of these same 115 Illinois Companies have increased by a spectacular 553%.

This 553% increase is a huge step up in percentage increase from that of just two weeks ago, where the average increase was a much lower 501% from March 6, 2009 to October 17, 2014.

To illustrate just how exceptionally strong these Illinois Companies are, 16 of them had their stock market prices increase by more than 10 times and 8 of them had their stock market prices increase by more than 20 times since March 6, 2009.

Below here are the stock market prices of each of these 115 Illinois Companies, overwhelmingly Chicago Metro Area Companies, on October 31, 2014, on March 6, 2009, and on December 31, 2007, along with the related Stock Market Price Percentage Changes:

On the Illinois Non-Profit Hospital front, from a review of the Electronic Municipal Market Access (EMMA), I found 17 Non-Profit Hospital Organizations headquartered in the State of Illinois with Net Assets (i.e. Financial Strength or Total Assets minus Total Liabilities) at the most recent date of more than $400 mil each.  Below here are the Net Assets of these 17 at both the most recent reported date and also at the Fiscal Year End (FYE) closest to the beginning of the Obama Administration:

      27,350

      14,219 92%

As you can see from the above chart, the Total Net Assets (Financial Strength) of these 17 Illinois Non-Profit Hospital Organizations increased by a spectacular 92% to a massive $27.350 bil so far during the Obama Administration.

To illustrate just how hot these 17 Illinois Hospitals were very recently on the Net Asset growth front, in just the past 12 months, the Total Net Assets percentage increase during the Obama Administration grew from 64% growth to 92% growth.

The more I study these just incredible Net Asset growth percentage increases in Non-Profit Hospitals  all over the US, the more I have to conclude that Obama is not just the Stock Market President and the IPO President, but also the Hospital President.

Very positively impacting this spectacular increase in the Net Assets (Financial Strength) of these 17 Illinois Hospital Organizations were actions taken by both the Obama Administration and the US Fed to strengthen the US Financial Foundation which was severely damaged from the financial meltdown in late 2008.

In addition, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has also played a key role in this very robust increase in Net Assets (Financial Strength) of these 17 Illinois Non-Profit Hospital Organizations.

A remarkable thing is that these very robust increases in Net Assets (Financial Strength) of these Non-Profit Hospital Organizations occurred when these Non-Profit Hospitals, and especially the Illinois ones, were also playing very instrumental roles in the substantial annual percentage growth reduction of Total US Health Care Costs which occurred in each of the most recent three years under the ACA.

With such very impressive Net Asset percentage increases of these 17 Illinois Hospitals, a key beneficiary of this has been and will continue to be Illinois citizens electing to buy health insurance on the Health Insurance Exchange.  This very strong Net Asset growth gives these Illinois Hospitals the financial flexibility to moderate their pricing for hospital procedures in their negotiations with health insurance companies which ultimately determines what insurance premium prices are set at by health insurance companies on the Health Insurance Exchange.

Cook County Health and Hospital System

Cook County Health and Hospital System is a Non-Profit Governmental Entity.

Since the hospitals included in the Cook County Health and Hospital System are safety net hospitals and since the Chicago area is so huge, the Cook County Health and Hospital System has accumulated massive Operating Losses, which from its financial statements in EMMA totaled $418 mil in the Fiscal Year Ended November 2012 and a massive $2.279 bil for the 5 years ended November 2012.

But the very positive aspect to this is that the State of Illinois has fully expanded Medicaid.  So with the resultant massive inflow of Patient Revenues from Medicaid expansion, the Cook County Health and Hospital System should be able to make a huge dent in reducing these massive losses and perhaps even turn these massive losses into profits.

One of the key beneficiaries of this very healthy improvement in the Total Net Assets of the the Cook County Health and Hospital System due to Medicaid expansion in Illinois will be Illinois citizens electing to buy health insurance on the Health Insurance Exchange.  This exceptional Net Asset growth gives the hospitals in the Cook County Health and Hospital System as well as all Illinois Hospitals the financial flexibility to moderate their pricing for hospital and other health care procedures in their negotiations with health insurance companies which ultimately determines what insurance premium prices are set at by health insurance companies on the Health Insurance Exchange.
