From a review of the very fine Google Finance Website and of company financial statements in the US SEC website, I found the 35 Companies ..... 5 Financial and 30 Non-Financial ..... headquartered in the Pittsburgh Area, all with Stock Market Capitalizations now of more than $100 Mil and which also have filed their fiscal year 2015 annual financial statements with the SEC. Traditional Regulated Utilities were excluded.
The 5 Financial Pittsburgh Area Companies generated 2015 US GAAP Audited Total Earnings of $4.581 Bil which was precisely flat with that in 2014, but up 335% with that in 2008 of $1.052 Bil.
On the other hand and more importantly, the 30 Non-Financial Companies generated US GAAP Audited Total Earnings of $2.710 Bil in 2015, down 55% from that in 2014 of $5.984 Bil and also down 55% from that in 2008 of $6.068 Bil. Nobody wants to work for a company posting such disastrous earnings declines ..... you know you'll eventually get laid off. Thus the present horrific economic angst of more than half of the country, including so many millennials and older people of working age. And unfortunately, flawed US accounting principles are causing a portion of these huge earnings declines.
Below here are the reported Audited Earnings (Losses) From Continuing Operations of each of these 35 Pittsburgh Area Companies for all years reported from 2007 through 2015 where the amounts were presented and in a consistent manner:
