What I found was that 37 of the 100 Louisiana Hospitals, or 37% of them, posted Bottom Line Net Losses in 2012, which totaled an absolutely amazing $786 mil.
Leading the pact in these huge Losses were the Interim LSU Public Hospital at New Orleans $374 mil, the University Medical Center at Lafayette $121 mil, and the Charbert Medical Center at Houma $94 mil.
Yeah, these three Louisiana Hospitals combined generated Total Losses of $589 mil in just one year.
We love vacationing in New Orleans with its great music and eats and also watching both the Saints and LSU play football, but frankly I think that by Louisiana Government Leaders refusing to Expand Medicaid, they are not acting in the best interests of the overwhelming majority of their State's citizens. Let me explain further.
It's not just the present very high percentage of Louisiana residents who are either Uninsured or Underinsured, most of whom would be getting fair and decent health care coverage with the Affordable Cost Act in combination with the Full Expansion of Medicaid.
It's also the massive annual Losses of the Louisiana Public Hospitals, which are now being effectively funded by Louisiana citizens. If Medicaid were fully Expanded in Louisiana, these staggering ongoing annual Losses of these Louisiana Public Hospitals would be drastically reduced. Thus it only makes sense that the taxes now paid to fund these annual Losses should also be substantially reduced.
Below here from the AHD website are the Bottom Line Income or Losses of the 100 Louisiana Hospitals. The first 37 Hospitals shown all had Losses, which totaled a monstrous $786 mil in the most recently reported year, and all 100 Louisiana Hospitals combined posted Total Losses of $94.8 mil, the only State I have seen so far whose all Hospitals combined have generated Total Losses.
