Tennessee Corporate 2011 Annual Earnings Up Sharply Since 2009 Under Obama

I found 28 Corporations…..7 in Health Care and 21 in Other Industries….. headquartered in Tennessee, which file with the SEC, and which had Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of more than roughly $100 mil in any of the most recent three fiscal years.

The 7 Tennessee Health Care Corps, mostly hospitals, generated Total Pretax Income in 2011 of $3.9 bil, up 10% from 2010, and up 22% from 2009.

The 15 Tennessee Corps in the Other Sectors, excluding the 3 Late Additions, generated Total Pretax Income in 2011 of $9.9 bil, up 13% from 2010, and up a very impressive 74% from 2009.

In deriving Pretax Income, I start with Pretax Income under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and then exclude several clearly unusual very large items relative to Pretax Income, such as Asset Impairments, and Gains and Losses on both Debt Retirements and Asset Dispositions.  I am also excluding from Pretax Income International Paper's massive amount of Alternative Fuel Mix Tax Credits.

Tennessee citizens should be proud of the operating performance in the most recent two years of their fine Tennessee Corporations.

Clearly, the Obama Administration has created an economic environment that has permitted these Tennessee Corporations to flat-out flourish.

Below here is the Pretax Income (PTI) or Pretax Loss (PTL) of these 28 Tennessee Corps for each of the most recent three years, with the most recent fiscal year ends ranging from May 2011 to January 2012.
