Kansas Huge 2009 Corporate Losses Cut in Half in 2011 Under Obama

I found 10 Corporations headquartered in Kansas, which file with the SEC, and which had Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of more than $100 mil in any of the most recent three fiscal years.

These 10 Kansas Corps generated a Total Pretax Loss of a huge $3.2 bil in 2009, driven mainly by Sprint Nextel.  In the most recent 2011 year, these massive total losses were reduced by more than 50% to $1.5 bil.

In deriving Pretax Income, I start with Pretax Income under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and then exclude several clearly unusual very large items relative to Pretax Income, such as Asset Impairments, and Gains and Losses on both Debt Retirements and Asset Dispositions.

Below here is the Pretax Income (PTI) and Pretax Loss (PTL) of these 10 Kansas Corps for each of the most recent three years, with the most recent fiscal year ends ranging from September 2011 to January 2012.
