These 121 Illinois Companies had their average stock market prices decline by a massive 56% from December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second Presidential term, to March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the very lowest point for the overall stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.
But in the five years and three months since March 6, 2009 through June 18, 2014, the equally-company-weighted average stock market prices of these same 121 Illinois Companies have increased by a spectacular 470% through June 18, 2014, led mainly by Tenneco's stock market price increasing by a massive 75 times, KapStone Paper & Packaging up 40 times and Manitex Intl up 36 times, all in the most recent 5 years and three months.
In addition to Tenneco, KapStone Paper & Packaging and Manitex Intl, there are another 10 Illinois Companies which had their stock market prices increase by at least 10 times in the most recent five years and three months ..... Ulta Salon up 21 times, Sparton Corp up 19 times, Brunswick up 18 times, Akorn up 17 times, Coleman Cable up 17 times, Strategic Hotels & Resorts up 14 times, Century Aluminum up 13 times, Material Sciences Corp up 12 times, Discover Financial Services up 12 times and United Continental up 10 times.
The stock market prices of these Illinois Companies were on fire in the most recent month. To illustrate this point, the average stock market prices of these Illinois Companies had increased by a lower 432% in the five years and two months from March 6, 2009 through May 15, 2014, as compared with a substantially higher 470% increase in the five years and three months from March 6, 2009 through June 18, 2014.
Of these 121 Illinois Companies, 111 of them are headquartered in the Chicago area and they experienced an average stock market price increase of a phenomenal 495% in the most recent five years and three months. The 10 Illinois Companies located outside of the Chicago area had an average stock market price increase of a much lower 193% in the most recent five years and three months.
To illustrate the overall excellent operational performance of these 121 Illinois Companies, only 7 of them experienced stock market price declines in the most recent five years and three months.
Chicago area citizens should be extremely pleased with the outstanding performance of nearly all of their Chicago area Companies during the Obama Administration.
In similar fashion on the economic front, from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US unemployment rate doubled from 5.0% in December 2007 to 10.0% in October 2009, early in President Obama's first term which was the very lowest point for the US Labor Market due to the lagging spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.
And then with the US economic stimulating actions of the Obama Administration, supported by both a Democratic controlled US Senate and US House (at the time), taking full effect, coupled with the Quantitative Easing by the US Fed, the US unemployment rate declined sharply from 10.0% in October 2009 to 6.3% in the most recently reported May 2014.
In like manner, Illinois's unemployment rate precisely doubled, going from 5.5% in December 2007 to 11.0% in October 2009. And then with the US economic stimulating actions of the Obama Administration, supported by both a Democratic controlled US Senate and US House (at the time), going full throttle, coupled with the Quantitative Easing by the US Fed, the Illinois State unemployment rate declined markedly, going from 11.0% in October 2009 to 7.9% in the most recently reported April 2014.
