San Francisco Bay & Silicon Valley Areas Company Average Stock Prices Up 456% Under Obama, a Democratic US Senate, Governor Brown and a Quantitative Easing US Fed, After Being Down 54% During Financial Meltdown

I found 195 San Francisco Bay Area, Including the Silicon Valley Area, Headquartered Companies in Google or Yahoo's superb Finance websites with current Total Market Capitalizations of at least $100 mil and which also had their common stocks trading on each of the following three dates:
  • On December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second term
  • On March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the lowest point for the US stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the 2008 financial meltdown, and 
  • also on the most recent date May 16, 2014.
I also included 4 Companies which were sold in 2014 and one Company sold in Sep 2013.  And I also included one Company whose common stock first started trading in 2008.  That makes a total of 201 San Francisco & Silicon Valley Area Companies.

Several of these 201 San Francisco Bay Area Companies are legally headquartered overseas but with very substantial operations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The historical stock prices of these companies were obtained from the following two excellent internet resources....  Google Finance and MarketWatch Big Charts.

These 201 San Francisco & Silicon Valley Area Companies had their average stock market prices decline by a huge 54% from December 31, 2007 during President Bush's second Presidential term, to March 6, 2009, very early in President Obama's first term, which was the very lowest point for the overall stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.

But in the slightly more than five years since March 6, 2009, the average stock market prices of these same 201 San Francisco & Silicon Valley Area Companies have increased by a spectacular 456% through May 16, 2014.

On the downside, this spectacular 456% average stock price increase through May 16, 2014 is down substantially from the substantially more spectacular 549% average stock price increase through February 26, 2014.  This reduction is due mainly to very high multiple of earnings common stocks getting crushed by the market in the most recent 3 months, especially biotechnology, technology, and other health care stocks.  A US Congress unable to enact any legislation beneficial to Silicon Valley and San Francisco Area Businesses, such as a timely, permanent very robust Research & Experimentation Tax Credit, was also a contributing factor to this reduced average stock price growth.

The 40 San Francisco & Silicon Valley Areas Health Care Companies had an average stock market price increase in the slightly more than 5 year period from March 6, 2009 to May 16, 2014 of an incredibly off-the-charts 982%.....yeah, that's up nearly 10 times.

The 118 San Francisco & Silicon Valley Areas Technology Companies registered an average stock market price increase in the slightly more than 5 year period from March 6, 2009 to May 16, 2014 of a very impressive 337%.

The 21 San Francisco Area Finance Companies posted an average stock market price increase in the slightly more than 5 year period from March 6, 2009 to May 16, 2014 of a very impressive 331%.

The 14 San Francisco Area Services Companies had an average stock market price increase in the slightly more than 5 year period from March 6, 2009 to May 16, 2014 of an impressive 288%.

Altogether there were 13 San Francisco Area Companies which increased their stock market prices by more than 10 times in the slightly more than 5 year period from March 6, 2009 to May 16, 2014.  10 of these 13 were Technology Companies.

Two Biotechnology Companies were main drivers of this overall spectacular 456% average stock market price growth....Jazz Pharmaceuticals (up 203 times) and Pharmacyclics (up 113 times).

To illustrate the operational consistency of these 201 San Francisco Bay & Silicon Valley Area Companies, only 11 of them had stock market price declines since March 6, 2009.

In similar fashion, from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US unemployment rate doubled from 5.0% in December 2007 to 10.0% in October 2009, early in President Obama's first term which was the very lowest point for the US Labor Market due to the lagging spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.

And then with the US economic stimulating actions of the Obama Administration, supported by both a Democratic controlled US Senate and US House (at the time), taking full effect, coupled with the Quantitative Easing by the US Fed, the US unemployment rate declined sharply from 10.0% in October 2009 to 6.3% in the most recently reported April 2014.

In like manner, the State of California's unemployment rate more than doubled, going from 5.8% in December 2007 to 12.1% in October 2009.  And then with the US economic stimulating actions of the Obama Administration, supported by both a Democratic controlled US Senate and US House (at the time), going full throttle, coupled with both the Quantitative Easing by the US Fed and a very proactive, Democratic controlled California State Government, the California unemployment rate declined sharply, going from 12.1% in October 2009 to 7.8% in the most recently reported April 2014. 

San Francisco Bay Area citizens should be extremely pleased with the outstanding performance of nearly all of their San Francisco Bay Area Companies during the Obama Administration.
