The 317 US Companies With Market Caps Several Months Ago of $2-3 Bil Registered First Half 2016 US GAAP Total Earnings of $13 Bil, Up 36% or Up $3.4 Bil From Their First Half 2015 Total Earnings of $9.6 Bil ..... This $3.4 Bil Earnings Improvement in the First Half 2016 Over the First Half 2015 Was Predominately Due to Oil & Gas Company Chesapeake Energy's Total After-Tax Loss Declining by $5.1 Bil ($7.8 Bil in the First Half 2015 vs $2.7 Bil in the First Half 2016), Which Included a Reduction in Oil & Gas Properties Impairment Pre-Tax Charges of $8.1 Bil ($10.0 Bil in the First Half 2015 vs $1.9 Bil in the First Half 2016) ..... In Comparison, Total Audited Earnings of These US Companies in Annual 2015 Decreased by a Dramatic 73% From Annual 2014 and Total Audited Earnings in 2014 Also Decreased by a Dramatic 60% From Annual 2013

From a review of the superb Google Finance Website and of company financial statements in the US SEC website, I found the 317 Companies headquartered in the US with Stock Market Capitalizations several months ago of $2-3 Bil.  Traditional Regulated Utility Companies are excluded.

These 317 US Companies posted First Half 2016 US GAAP Earnings From Continuing Operations of $13.0 Bil, which were up 36% from the $9.6 Bil registered in the First Half 2015.  The First Half Earnings amounts are predominately for the Six Months Ended June, with the remainder being for the Six Months Ended in either May or in July.  One of these 317 US Companies has not yet reported its July 2016 quarterly earnings with the SEC and thus this quarterly earnings was excluded below.

Unfortunately, the Total Audited Earnings of these US Companies declined precipitously from 2013 to 2015.  Such Total Earnings were $109.0 Bil in 2013, and then declined by 60% in 2014 to $43.5 Bil.  Subsequently, these Total Annual Earnings declined further by 73% in 2015 to $11.8 Bil.  When Earnings decline so precipitously, it only makes since that US real GDP growth will be very modest.
