Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies Market Prices Up 275% Since President Obama Took Office

From a review of SEC Filings , I previously found 57 Oil & Gas Corps and Partnerships headquartered in the State of Texas which generated Core, Ongoing Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of at least $200 mil each in any of the first three years of the Obama Administration (2009, 2010 or 2011), and which also had their common stock trading on both January 16, 2009, which is the last day stocks traded before President Obama took office, and also on September 6, 2013 or were acquired in either 2012 or 2013.

These 57 Texas Oil & Gas Companies had their average stock prices increase by a very impressive 170% from January 16, 2009 to September 6, 2013.

So now in this post I am focusing on the Non-Oil & Gas Texas Companies.  From a review of SEC Filings , I found 63 Non-Oil and Gas Companies headquartered in the State of Texas which generated Core, Ongoing Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of at least $150 mil each in any of the first three years of the Obama Administration (2009, 2010 or 2011), and which also had their common stock trading on both January 16, 2009, which is the last day stocks traded before President Obama took office, and also on September 6, 2013.  I also included one company that first began trading in 2010.  I also included three companies which were acquired in either 2012 or in 2013.   I excluded two companies which filed for bankruptcy.

A couple of these 63 Companies are legally foreign corporations but with substantial operations in Texas.

I lowered the earnings threshold from $200 mil for the Oil & Gas Companies to $150 mil for the Non-Oil & Gas Companies in order to get a larger number of Non-Oil & Gas companies.

The historical stock prices were obtained from the following two excellent internet resources.....  Google Finance and MarketWatch Big Charts .

These 63 Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies had their average stock prices increase by an even substantially higher 275% from January 16, 2009 to September 6, 2013.  This 275% increase is 2.9 times the 95% increase in the S&P 500 Index over the same time span.

Many Texans contend that the Obama Administration has harmed the US economy and particularly hurt Texas businesses, but that is not consistent with what has happened in Texas where the 57 largest Texas Oil & Gas Companies have experienced an average stock market price appreciation of 170% so far during the Obama Administration and the 63 largest Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies have experienced an average stock market price appreciation of an even more robust 275% so far during the Obama Administration.

I would be surprised if this average stock market price appreciation for these 63 Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies isn't above 400% for the Obama Administration's entire 8 year run.

The 55 of these 63 Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies which were also Non-Financial Companies experienced an even higher 301% average stock market price appreciation so far during the Obama Administration.

Looking at stock market performance by Texas Metropolitan Areas, Dallas led with its 33 Non-Oil & Gas Companies experiencing a 345% average increase, followed closely by Austin's 5 Companies having a 328% increase and San Antonio's 3 Companies having a 320% increase.  The Houston Area's 19 Non-Oil & Gas Companies experienced a substantially lower, but still impressive, 156% average increase.

Below here are the common stock market closing prices of each of these 63 Texas Non-Oil & Gas Companies at both the most recent date (September 6 2013) and also at the date just before President Obama took office in his first term (Jan 16, 2009), as well as the percentage stock market price changes for this period of time:
