......................................................................
From a review of SEC filings, Google Finance and Market Watch Big Charts, I found 97 Texas Oil & Gas Companies with stock markets caps of above $1 bil sometime since the beginning of 2018 and which also disclosed their quarterly Pretax Income in all of the three most recent quarters.
My Focus is on Pretax Income rather than on After-Tax Net Income because Income Taxes are simply a transfer of financial wealth between US Corporations and the US Federal, US State and Foreign Governments. It has nothing whatsoever to do with company operating performance.
When Total Pretax Earnings of the key Texas Oil & Gas Companies Sector drop so precipitously in just one quarter of time, the likelihood of a worldwide economic downturn, especially in the Western World, has increased significantly.
And if this precipitous earnings drop in this key Texas Oil & Gas Sector continues at the same pace in each of the next three quarters, then an economic recession is likely, at least throughout the Western World.
I find it particularly troublesome that when earnings collapse, the smaller companies bare more of the brunt than do the largest companies. To illustrate here:
- The 22 very largest Texas Oil & Gas Cos with stock market caps above $10 Bil saw their Total Pretax Earnings decline by 24% in the March 2019 quarter.
- The Cos with market caps of $5-10 Bil had their Total Pretax Earnings drop by 45% in the same quarter.
- The Cos with market caps of $2-5 Bil saw their Total Pretax Earnings decline by 97% in the same quarter.
- The Cos with market caps of $1-2 Bil had their Total Pretax Earnings drop by 123% in the same quarter.
- And the Cos with market caps below $1 Bil now but reaching it sometime since the beginning of 2018 saw their Total Pretax Earnings decline by a staggering 868% in the same March 2019 quarter.
From SEC filings, the chart below shows the Gold-Standard US GAAP Pretax Income (Loss) From Continuing Operations for the March Quarters of both 2019 and 2018, the December Quarters of both 2018 and 2017 and the September Quarters of both 2018 and 2017 for each of these 97 Texas Oil & Gas Companies.
