New York Smaller Non-Financial Corp 2011 Annual Earnings Up 307% Since 2009 Under Obama

There were 85 New York headquartered Non-Financial Corps, which file with the SEC, and with Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of $100 mil or more in any of the most recent three years.

These 85 Largest Non-Financial New York Corps generated Total Pretax Income in 2011 of a massive $137 bil, which was 31% higher than that of two years earlier in 2009.

I wanted to see how the earnings of Smaller Non-Financial New York Corps, filing with the SEC, stacked up with the largest ones.

I found 34 New York headquartered Smaller Non-Financial Corps filing with the SEC, which had Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of $40 mil or more in any of the most recent three years, and which weren't included in the 85 Largest New York Non-Financial Corps.  Thus, these 34 Smaller Non-Financial New York Corps also did not have Pretax Income or Pretax Loss of $100 mil or more in any of the most recent three years.

How did they do?  Well, these 34 Smaller Non-Financial New York Corps had their total earnings growth more than triple, or up 307%, from that of two years ago in 2009. This was nearly 10 times the 31% total earnings growth of the 85 Largest Non-Financial New York Corps.

Clearly, New York citizens should be very proud of their many fine New York companies.

And yeah, the Obama Administration created a very robust US economic environment, which permitted these superb New York companies to do very well on the earnings front in the most recent two years.

In deriving Pretax Income, I start with Pretax Income under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and then exclude several clearly unusual very large items relative to Pretax Income, such as Property and Intangible Asset Impairments, and Gains and Losses on both Debt Retirements and Asset Dispositions.

I use Pretax Income rather than After-tax Net Income, since so much of the change in effective income tax rates just happens due to financial engineering.

I excluded Corps in the Development Stage, and ones generating losses for many years.

The majority of these 119 Non-Financial New York Corps, both the 85 Largest and the 34 Smaller ones, have their Headquarters located in New York, NY.  Below here are the ones that were headquartered somewhere other than New York, NY.
