I found 46 Michigan Headquartered Companies in the superb Google Finance website and from SEC filings with current Total Market Capitalizations of at least $100 mil and which also had their common stocks trading on each of the following three dates:
- On December 31, 2007 before the financial meltdown hit
- On March 6, 2009, which was the lowest point for the US stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the 2008 financial meltdown, and
- also on the most recent date January 2, 2015
The historical stock prices of these companies were obtained from the following two excellent internet resources.... Google Finance and MarketWatch Big Charts.
These 51 Michigan Companies had their equal-company weighted average stock market prices decline by a massive 66% from December 31, 2007 before the 2008 Financial Meltdown hit to March 6, 2009, which was the very lowest point for the overall stock market due to the spillover effects resulting from the disastrous 2008 Financial Meltdown.
But in the five years and ten months since March 6, 2009, the average stock market prices of these same 51 Michigan Companies have increased by a phenomenally off-the-charts 889% through January 2, 2015, led by two Auto Suppliers.....TRW Automotive stock market price up a massive 63 times and American Axle up 56 times, both in the most recent five years and ten months.
This 889% Michigan Companies average stock market price increase was the highest of that in all US States, with Indiana being second highest at 860%.
Of these 51 Michigan Companies, 33 of them were headquartered in the Detroit/Ann Arbor/Flint Combined Statistical Area (CSA) and the other 18 were headquartered in the rest of Michigan.
These 33 Detroit/Ann Arbor/Flint Metro Area Companies had an incredibly off-the-charts average stock market price increase of 1,195%.....yeah, that's up nearly 12 times.....in the most recent five years and ten months.
Also, these 33 Detroit Area Companies have not just recouped what they lost in average stock market price decline with the disastrous effects of the 2008 Financial Meltdown, but they have now experienced an average stock market price increase of more than double since December 31, 2007, which was before the 2008 Financial Meltdown hit.
The 18 Michigan Companies headquartered outside the Detroit/Ann Arbor/Flint CSA had their average stock market prices increase by a much lower but still very respectable 326% in the most recent five years and ten months.
There has been something nearly miraculous happening with Detroit Metro Area Companies Stock Market Prices, and especially with Detroit Area Auto Industry Companies Stock Market Prices, in the most recent five years and ten months.....all of it during the Obama Administration.
