In my Ongoing, Core Pretax Income of the giant Bank of America, I excluded from reported Pretax Income, the mark to market positive and negative value adjustments related to credit spreads in both the 3Q 2012 and the 3Q 2011. Conservatively, I didn't exclude from reported Pretax Income the much larger litigation expenses in the 3Q 2012. And also conservatively, I didn't exclude from Pretax Income in the 3Q 2011 the Gain on Investment in the China Construction Bank, net of the Loss on Equity and Strategic Investments.
Even without Bank of America's substantial earnings improvement in the 3Q 2012, the other 39 North Carolina Corp generated an Ongoing, Core Pretax Earnings increase of a solid 6%.
